Semahane is the traditional name for the place where the Mevlevi Sufi's perform the whirling ceremony of Sema. For some time, the Mevlevi Order of Australia has been seeking a permanent home, a place dedicated to the teaching of the Mevlevi tradition and the performance of Sema.

The difficulty in finding suitable premises has been a mixture of size (Sema requires a large open space), location and affordability.
